Drop The Beat resident Jules follows up with a second instalment of ‘The Groove’. We caught up with him to tell us a bit more about the mix…
DTB: So, here we are again with Part 2 of ‘The Groove!’ We should say at the outset, that for the full background on how this mix and Part 1 came about, they first need to read the biog for Part 1 HERE.
Jules: Yeah, good idea, saves going through it all again but suffice to say this second part kind of follows on from the first; two mixes that weren’t really supposed to be mixes but ended up being so mainly because I liked the feel and flow and after listening to them many, many times over, decided that to try and copy them again and do over would probably not hit the same spot, so here we are!
DTB: Excellent. So tell us a bit more about part two, I remember you saying you upped the tempo a bit for the second instalment?
Jules: Yeah, only a touch, think the first one was around 116 and the second about 120 or 121 if memory serves, but that little notch just allowed most of the second instalment to be played closer to their natural speeds which I think is important with the slightly slower stuff.
DTB: A nice delve into the archives with a few of these? Some absolute belters, too.
Jules: Yes, as I said in part one, I’ve been collecting a lot of these for years and that’s been the great thing with Drop The Beat allowing us an absolute free hand with the mixes, so nice to be able to do a bit with them.
DTB: It’s hard to pick out any tune over another in this mix, we just love the way it just keeps rolling on, a proper groove!
Jules: Yeah, nail on the head I guess. Even though it’s a touch slower there’s a rolling groove through it all that just keeps building you for the next, and then it goes off with ‘Running Out’, the Angelo Ferreri Glitter Mix.
DTB: Case in point, a proper rolling beat on that one with those percussive hooks and epic piano loops… belter!
Jules: Yup. Must admit that’s a banger… great vocal on it too.
DTB: Where would you be playing this out then?
Jules: It’s really versatile actually. Great early starter to get you properly in the mood, or an afterparty kick back. Also a proper one for a chilled Sunday morning… take your pick, it works on all levels!
DTB: Agreed. Only thing left to do is turn it up!
