OK, so it’s been a little bit busy (manic!) with all things drop the beat since the New Year, so whilst not strictly new-new, this one’s only about eight weeks old, but well worth a shout as it’s an absolute floor-filler that’s been featuring in my mixes on a regular basis…
For full disclosure, I’m a paid up member of the Saison fan club and one of their tracks will often find its way into one of my sets at any given opportunity, so I’ve been watching the ‘Pleased As Punch’ label with interest, which sees the coming together of Saison and The Shapeshifters for a little dabble in the fields of Nu Disco, Indie Dance and House.
Through 2023 the label released a few tracks from the likes of Aline Rocha and Friendly Ghosts along with a few of their own bits and pieces and then late December, just as everybody was about to break up and start partying hard for Christmas, they introduced Groove P to the line up with ‘Are They Real’.
In their own words it’s a ‘straight up dance floor weapon’ and that ain’t no lie… my first play was at one of our infamous Christmas Party / Kitchen Disco gatherings for staff and friends over Christmas, and whilst strictly speaking their is no dancefloor in my kitchen, it certainly looked like it when this one went on!
It’s funky as hell with a driving 124 bpm beat all the way though – an absolute groove with a simple but oh, so effective base riff and a delightful vocal sample…
