Mixes: Exclusive Disco Funk Poolside Mix from Simo – May 18th 2024

Simo has been in the game for a long time and loves his disco sound. He is also a professional sound engineer. Here’s a few words from the man himself:

I’m currently 55 years old, and have DJ’d from the very young age of 11. It all began doing school disco’s, youth clubs, working men’s clubs, weddings, engagements and fashion shows in the 1980’s. As got into my teens and we crossed over and into the 90’s, I crept into Night Club culture (without any hesitation!). I began playing all around Cannock and Wolverhampton’s club scene… Stamps, Bounders, Snoopy’s, Eve’s etc. This is where I found my love for Jazz Funk, Funk and Disco, and the mixing of these genres. I just couldn’t get enough of those 70’/80’s funky bass guitar riffs, which I have always been attuned to and have always enjoyed mixing.

I absolutely cannot miss out on telling you about my old passion for Deep House. That always go me in the groove with my old mates Dig & Whoosh, Simon DK, Pez, Emma and Pip… from DIY Sound System back in the 90’s Rave scene.

Being fascinated with audio meant I always had a nice sound system for my DJing. I was using Mega ‘W’ Bass, JBL 45-60 low mid, Altec Hi Mid/Hi, and Crown amplification, just to give you an idea. After 15 years of family life, with my two daughters being at the age of independence, I decide to make and sell speaker cabinets using designs from plans I found on the internet. I performed installations in bars and small clubs and saved up for my first Turbosound TSE sound system. Now, let me tell you, this system was a superior sound system design, by founder Tony Andrews. My first taster comprised of 4 x TSE 218 Bass, 4 x TM4 and 4 x TSE111.

I then sold on and went to the next level. Purchasing a Turbosound Floodlight system; 4 x TFL760 and 8 x TSE121 bass. Again, tuning my hearing to new sounding system that kept getting better and better. The clarity and cleanliness of the audio was phenomenal, and quickly improving. Tony Andrews then sold his company and started the now, ever famous, Funktion-One. I just had to sell. I had to move on.

Once I sold this system, it got a little bit serious. Selling a relatively large system to purchase a smaller one, but now a state-of-the-art speaker system. I mean, again, this system was a massive improvement on the Turbosound. I purchased the pricey Funktion-One speaker system, comprising of just 2 x RES4, and 4 x F121 bass. But, as always, this quickly grew. I was owning up to 12 x F121 bass. I quickly shifted to the long throwing Resolution 5 cabinets, 8 cabinets in total. What a superb system.

As times changed and speaker components became more sophisticated, Funktion-One themselves designed yet another new series called ‘Evolution’, and I then, of course, had to move onto this new sophisticated sound, still using my ever-loved F121 bass. I quickly sold the Resolution 5 and purchased the EVO6, and wow. Tony had yet again improved the audio (nothing can stop this man). I apologise, I have gone on a bit here haven’t I… I just love my audio.

This year I retired from the hiring of sound equipment. I missed it so very much and have, after only 7 months break, decided to make a comeback but on a smaller scale. With that being said, if any small parties need a system, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
