It’s safe to say the latest DropTheBeat ‘Filthy House Mix’ by resident DJ Jules does exactly what it says on the tin…
In essence, 75 minutes of utter filth… we caught up with Jules ahead of the teams second trip out to Ibiza this summer to get the lowdown on his latest exclusive mix for DTB.
DTB: [Grins]
Jules: [Laughs out loud] You’ve heard it then?
DTB: You could say that!
Jules: Well, if you’re going to do a filthy house mix you may as well do it properly!
DTB: Not kidding, however, last time we spoke you said you would be doing a deep house mix next followed by a funky house mix. What happened?
Jules: Ah, yeah. Well, they are coming, but I just got a little bit sidetracked. So basically, I came across the Hyph Mngo tune and just fell in love with the vocal sample at the start, “When I realised I was out of my body I was slightly frightened for a short time… but after that it seemed quite natural”. It sets up the tune perfectly but when mixing it in it’s easy to miss it, so I knew I wanted to start a mix with it. Likewise, Koshmaro at the end, it finishes with great vocal samples that just tail off to nothing and had it in mind it would be a great track to finish a mix on. Like the first track it’s also a great bit of filth, so I thought why not make a thing of it and just go full on filth for the whole thing.
DTB: Mission accomplished, then!
Jules: Yeah, it moves around a bit but they all have that one thing in common.
DTB: Incessant, in a good way!! Any tunes in particular you want to single out?
Jules: Got to give Neil Frances Energy a shout. Absolute banger that one, gets me every time. Also, Sonidero Usera by Bawrut. Bit of a team favorite at our house party gatherings since Ibiza last year when we had a trip out to Pikes. Camilo was playing in the ball pit and Jesus, it was insane! Full on filth for hours on end in a room the size of your kitchen cupboard! He dropped Sonidero Usera and it went off. Proper moment for all of us who were there and as we’re about to jump on the plane again tomorrow and will be back in Pikes in a few days it seemed apt.
DTB: Deep house mix next then?
Jules: [Laughs] On it.
