Rave The Planet, a not-for-profit Berlin based collective dedicated to the art, culture, and love for electronic music took to social media yesterday to announce that TechnoCulture in Berlin has been officially recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage!
An official release is due shortly but in the meantime we suspect rather large techno parties will be breaking out across Berlin as we type! Rave The Planet added “A big thank you to everyone involved who has been with us on this journey since Hans Cousto’s initial idea in 2011. Special thanks to the Expert Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage at the German UNESCO Commission! This is a major milestone for the entire culture, and our joy is beyond words. Tomorrow, we’ll release an official press statement about it. But for today, let’s celebrate!”
In November 2021, they released the short documentary below about their UNESCO application “Techno Culture in Berlin”. In the documentary (in German), cultural figures Adriaan van der Werf, Alan Oldham, Alexander Krüger, daniel boon, Dimitri Hegemann, Dr. Motte, Ellen Allien, Hans Cousto, Marc Wohlrabe, Mike Vollmuth, and Sophie Augello explain what makes Techno Culture in Berlin so unique and why it is important to protect it.
