Featured Track: Midland – Final Credits – Classic Music Company – 2016

Posted on March 11, 2024June 15, 2024 by admin

Jeez… if you’re looking to get a bit of top quality sample-based disco funk loveliness into your collection, then have a bang on this one!!

Although released in December 2016, the backstory on this track starts in in February of the same year when Midland, aka DJ Harry Agius made his contribution to the hugely influential BBC Essential Mix series. The end of the mix took the shape of an unreleased track that would go on to soundtrack dance floors and festivals the world over until it was impossible not to get it released, and in stepped The Classic Music Company who were delighted to put out Final Credits on official release.

What can you say about this track, it just hit’s all the perfect spots; a full on groove with fantastic samples, a proper disco slappa da bass riff, killer vocals and a synth to die for! Little wonder the Essential Mix on which it was first featured went on to win ‘best Essential Mix of the year’… quite an accolade.

Raised in Tanzania and Greece, Agius attended university in Leeds, England, where he began as a drum’n’bass and dubstep DJ and recorded shows for Frequency FM. As Midland, he made his production debut in 2010, the year he and close associate Ramadanman teamed up for a collaborative 12″ release on Aus Music and released the solo Play the Game through Phonica. Into the latter half of the 2010s, Agius issued singles and EPs at a rate of roughly three a year for Aus and his own labels, Graded and its Regraded subsidiary. Additionally, he put together mixes for Fact magazine, Resident Advisor, and Dekmantel, and remixed tracks by Lone, Julio Bashmore, and Flume. Following his 2016 successes with his BBC Essential Mix and widely embraced “Final Credits,” he put together his first official mix CD, Fabriclive 94, released in 2017. Featured on the cover of Mixmag’s February 2019 issue, he followed up with the streaming/digital set Mixmag Presents Midland, and also released The Alchemy of Circumstance, a four-track EP, before the end of the year.

An absolute groove…
