For anybody old enough or lucky enough to have been out and about during the burgeoning UK club scene in the late 80’s, this track by Metroplane featuring Daniel Wilson should evoke a few fond memories…
To be clear this is a new track, in relative terms, released in November 2019 but everything about it just screams early house anthem. The more you listen to the hypnotic bassline and wavy synths, the more you pick out similarities to countless classics from back in the day, but it’s no lame pastiche, it’s fresh and of itself… in fact it’s bloody brilliant!
The rich, silky voice of Daniel Wilson gives great depth and the whole thing comes together beautifully. I remember playing it on repeat when I first heard it and it took me straight back to the my early days clubbing in Introspective, Hacienda, Golden and such like. You’re into the last half hour of the night, soaking up every second with all those around you and then they drop one that goes for the heart strings… moment.
Every time I hear it I can’t help but smile and think of long passed nights in long lost clubs.. evocative to say the least!
“A blissed out vibe” is how Annie Mac described it on BBC Radio 1 at the time, which kinda sums it up.
