Basement Exclusive Mix: Nick Sheldon January 26th 2024

Lovely exclusive from DJ Nick Sheldon. Here’s what he had to say about it:

I really enjoyed playing out this mix.

Starts out a little dark and deep with the excellent remix by Pitch Black of ‘Please Leave Quietly’, which I put at the start (just for a little headfuck). Basically, ‘Don’t Leave, but stay and settle into the groove, whether you’re dancing or just working away at the office. *Ahem* if you are going to play this in the office, then time it for when you’re hitting the exit door on a Friday. Reason being, this mix is a builder and finishes on some top-notch main room bangers.
Track two, from the Eternity EP by Man/ipulate takes you on a nice rolling acid ‘oldskool sound’ which paves way for track three, the Rhythm Masters, Mutiny Uk – Playing Out (Dub Version), which my youngest pointed me in the direction of, ‘Dad’, he said, ‘This is right up your street!’… He’s not wrong, what a great track!

Track four, I throw in the great voice of Liv Campbell and trippin’ (what a unique voice) which melts away into (in my opinion) a very ennio morricone influenced (if he was still producing now then this is what he would drop) arrangement that when it drops with just the voice, you will understand my reference to Ennio.

Next up is Track six ‘Pontias – Unagi’, this is a stomper which fires out mis fired drum beats to hook you in. Track seven, Mental Template is a proper chugger of a track, love this tune, and it precedes / flows beautifully into ‘ Christian Hornbostel – Archeus’ which continues that great head-nod experience. Nick Morgan then delivers his fantastic remix of ‘Teardrops (Don’t Stop The Music)’ another lovely sounding vocal over that pulsating bassline.

Keeping you on your toes you’re transported back to 1992 and the luscious house sound of Rhythm 3 Request and it still holds it’s own today, as it’s US House sound was so well produced. Track eleven and it’s time to ramp it up with some big organ sounds and then twisting you up with some main-room acid, Belter.

The mix is now building to a proper main club tempo with Track twelve and the driving bassline of ‘FlyerTalk’, big fave of mine this and had a great reception when played on the Anthemia Boat Party (shameless plug). The final track is sure to have you reaching for the phone to organise everyone to get out and party tonight. This sublime relentless tune from the mesmerising minds of Christoph and ‘John ‘Quivver’ Graham’ <- who in fact I’ve supported his whole music career judging by the amount of quivver vinyl etc. An outstanding producer!
